Rooted in 1888

Villa Lysvoll was built around 1888 to welcome English salmon anglers who traveled to Stryn in search of the region’s renowned fishing rivers. At the time, accommodation was scarce, and the nearest hotel in Stryn was too far from the most attractive fishing pools along the river. The villa offered a convenient and elegant base for these early visitors, combining comfort with direct access to the natural treasures of the area.

Even then, Stryn’s dramatic fjords and rugged mountains drew international attention. Mountaineering pioneers such as William Cecil Slingsby explored the surrounding peaks, while distinguished visitors like Kaiser Wilhelm II were captivated by Norway’s striking landscapes. Villa Lysvoll thus became part of a growing tradition of travel and adventure in the region.

For over a century, the villa remained primarily a haven for anglers, and fishing in the Stryn River continues to attract guests today. More recently, Villa Lysvoll has welcomed travellers seeking a unique and historic base from which to explore the Nordic landscape, whether through hiking, hunting, skiing, or other nature-based experiences.
